about

The last song written for the record. I got the idea for the group vocal from a Mount Live record, where we gets the crowd to sing these repetitive chants in between each line of lyrics. It's really affecting, and I had a go at replicating it here. It didn't really work because it's a big chorus of me, but I still like the effect.

I guess that this is about parents and their children. The first verse is all of the worries that a parent-to-be has, and the second verse is about an adult facing the imminent end of their parent's life.

lyrics

Millions now alive will never die.
(That's wishful thinking)
Maybe our sons and daughters will never hurt.
(That's wishful thinking)
Things will get better even if we don't.
(That's wishful thinking)
Someone else will fix this mess

It so easily could have been over now

We can measure up to our parents on their best day.
(That's what we owe them)
We can lie through our teeth to fearful dying eyes.
(That's what we owe them)
We'll try to provide comfort where none should exist.
(That's what we owe them)
We'll hide our teary eyes.

It so easily could have been over now
