A song about social anxiety, specifically when you move into that age where you're starting to get a bit old to partake in the activities you've always identified yourself with. I wanted a bit of a 60s pop vibe to this one, with the deadened drums with slap echo, and the big, over the top guitar solo and big, sloppy group singalong at the end. The epicness of aspects of the song are kind of funny given the subject matter.
lyrics
Half remaining drink on the counter top.
Weighing up the options: continue or to stop.
Pushing down the awkwardness with another glass,
Or get behind the wheel, put these people in the past.
Candy, drawing in and standing
Over in the corner, grabbing at her shoulder.
Listening to the banter, the silence that surrounds her,
The bright downlights that haunt her, highlighting her frame.
Enveloped in the sound bouncing off the walls.
Hidden in the volume seeping to the core.
Candy, drawing in and standing
Over in the corner, grabbing at her shoulder.
Listening to the banter, the silence that surrounds her,
The bright downlights that haunt her, highlighting her frame.
The empty conversation, the bodies' condensation
Collecting on the ceiling, the useless air-conditioning.
The sense of youth near gone, of duty lingering on.
Now they're playing the final song, we're dispersing through the door.
St Augustus is the solo venture of one Cameron Smith. Follows on from the band Mt Augustus. Slowcore folk pop with occasional forays into volume and noise.
My favourite track on this compilation is actually Hot Magnets' remix of 'Wolves Bite and Disappear'. If you're reading this and you haven't heard it, you need to rethink your choices in life. James
An EP of mostly pacy, fuzzy alt-pop/rock. The distorted noise is ably supported by dreamy vocal harmonies, which perfectly fit the mood and tempo. Short and sweet – I'm super impressed! Michael Reilly

Thin Lear's sophisticated rock music is tempered with soaring chamber pop accents and an undeniable gift for melody. Bandcamp New & Notable Jul 30, 2020
